Friday to Monday 5th October
Friday
We were up early then at 10 drove down to Corsham for our weekend away with Veran and Harshita at Corsham House a restaurant with rooms I had seen an article about in the Times or Guardian.
We stopped off for a wander around Lacock and lunch at the eye of the angel – a restauarnt Carla and I had taken my mum to a few years back.
We had a light but lovely lunch then drove on to Corsham which though pretty ish was not a match for Lacock really. Hotel was very nice although the rooms were tiny. We had a lazy afternoon wandered and had a beer or two at the Methuen arms then a lovely dinner in the hotel. We retired to our separate rooms and watched celebrity traitors.
Saturday.
Up and met for breakfast at the Corsham Deli – Woodys. Our plan today was to walk to and from Castle Combe although none of us had plotted a route or researched whether a route existed. Thus as we setoff we were walking along a small country lane with cars whizzing towards us at light speed. We took a joint decision and returned to base and Veran then kindly drove us to Castle Combe – beautiful place.

Spent an hour or so then headed back to Corsham and lunch and a pint at the Flemish Arms. We then paid £5 each and wandered the beautiful gardens at Corsham Court before a couple of pre dinner pints at the Methuen Arms.
Dinner was again lovely.
Sunday
Breakfasted in hotel then Veran drove us home. I shopped and made a roast whilst Carla ironed. We then cycled up to Union Chapel to see Carminho (a Fadista) in concert.
Monday
Up early as I was in 0845 BA flight to Valencia to crash part of Sarah and Pa’s holiday.
Was in my lovely hotel by 1330 and had a nice tapas of anchovies and one croquetta.

Met Sarah and Pa and we had Horchata at Daniels in Market Colon. We then wandered to the old town, had a game of monopoly deal (Pa won) then some tapas before they and I headed home. I napped then wandered out for a meal – chose badly but never mind. Was devouring a book called ‘These Wild English’. She is Northern and working class and was making sense of why her mum in later life marched with the EDL. Talks to white working class disenfranchise and is a discourse on why such people voted Brexit and were prepared to turn out and march. Some interesting parallels with my own (mum’s) family – farm labourers all, drinkers. Thought provoking in many ways. There was one thing in particular that resonated and felt close to home but can I remember it… no.
