Friday 11th Sept
Woke to absolutely torrential rain and it barely stopped the whole day. A literal biblical downpour.
Carla woke feeling a lot better and her Ōura telling her it too had detected major strain and an elevated temperature … doubly impressed. She is her normal self again today.
Yesterday I listened to the first episode of series 3 of Bill Nighy’s podcast ‘Ill Advised’ – I love it and he always reads a page or two from a recommended book (amongst other things). It’s worth a listen. His recommended book this week was by a relatively new author James Wolff – ‘ Beside the Syrian Sea’ – he is British and it is in the espionage genre – one of my favourites. Haven’t cracked reading yet since retiring – I had dowloaded to iPad the Anarchy by William Dalrymple about the East India Company (EIC) and had started reading that but it isn’t much of a page turner so I bought Bill’s recommendation for £6.49 from apple store. I prefer an actual book but the iPad is more convenient when travelling.
Started it at about 0930 – finished at 1630. Granted there was nothing much else to do – was very good I too recommend it. So, I am chuffed with myself – have I cracked the reading malarkey? … time will tell. I really did love a book when I get going and since I haven’t read consistently or frequently for 25 or so years (having been an avid reader before then) have I cracked it now? – it is what retirement is all about I feel.
I have booked the on site Indian restaurant tonight. Will add my thoughts on it later then post.
Oh dear very average – I left the old fashioned even. Disappointed culinary wise still.
