Wednesday 9th Sept
Transfer day back to Nairobi – 5h drive and because our Kenya Airways flight time was moved to 1925 from 5pm ish they dropped us at Crowne Plaza Nairobi airport.
However I had a rough night and have picked up a nasty bout of food poisoning – up three times and at time of writing this from Nairobi airport at 1730 am still suffering – 6 Imodium (the daily limit) hasen’t touched it.
The drive was double hell – bumpy, smelly (pollution – not me) and not what you want when feeling sick. At the Crown Plaza I checked us in to a day room so I could sleep – Carla went for a swim and lunch although regretted her choice and is feeling a little under the weather too. I awoke at one point to dash to loo – made it … just (sorry if TMI).
Our guide said he had heard that the Serena Lodge we were in had had some food poisoning problems but had not believed it until he saw me rock up looking like death warmed up. Interestingly there were three chinese girls at the table next to us from breakfast yesterday – one was absent and I heard them explain to waitress that she had an upset tummy.
Needless to say, Carla raised the issue to DEFCON 5.
Arrived at airport 3h before Mombassa flight on recommendation so sitting dozing – hitting the loo and drinking water.
Left my phone at security so to check whose it was the chap dialled the emergency services number to reveal my name – Isabel rang concerned that maybe Carla had been eaten by a giraffe .. that would be her chosen way I reckon she loves giraffes.
Will post this now then update on the rest of how the evening went from Swahili Beach Hotel in Diani.
