Tuesday 8th September
Up and at ‘em by 7 driving through the grasslands of Amboseli looking for a cheetah. Not nearly as many animals here but still great to be out stalking – albeit in a land cruiser.
Amboseli is a mixture of plain and marshes – the elephants sink quite low so they look like they are sitting down. The bird life is lovely and both Carla and I agree we like looking at the birds so perhaps a new found hobby for both of us.
While I Shoot through the telephoto lens Carla is using my lovely Leica binoculars which, by the way are amazing – the clarity of them is just spectacular – German optics must be the best.
At about 1030 we were back at lodge for an SD card empty to computer and battery recharge. Saw this African sprinkler on way to room .
Sat on terrace for an hour with the binoculars (and a Tusker beer) and gazed out at the Savannah spying the wildlife.
Cloudy and grey here today so probably not going to be able to get the money shot of elephants in front of Kilimanjaro.
There are a lot of monkeys here.
At 1530 we set out on another game drive hoping but ultimately failing to get the money shot of elephants in from of Kilimanjaro but the cloud cover stayed however … having not expected a cheetah sighting and but 30 mins from finishing we found one – on the edge of the bush cover so zoom lens struggled however with the power of crop I can reveal … a cheetah.
We only saw it because Carla insisted we stop and watch these four walking across the plain in a line – all the animals move from the plains to the bush at night as it’s warmer.
Dinner was a bit naff – a buffet with a similar selection to lunch so after we finished packing, went to bed and ‘a-kip’ by 2200.
