3rd July, Friday
Well have been retired a week now and I am enjoying the mental freedom i.e. not having work in my head with me all the time. We had a slow day yesterday and today will be similar.
An expensive Breakfast at €20 albeit a nice spot overlooking a square next to the cathedral. Our plan is to walk on the Camino for a click or two then back for lunch.
We popped into the cathedral – million+ man hours wasted building that … then walked out for 3.5 km on the Camino to the edge of town. Jesus that is one busy walk and my idea of hell – we will not be doing that for sure. Walked back via a ‘bar’ unusually for us then straight to the central market for lunch which was lovely steamed muscles followed by ‘Filloa de Chipirón e limón’ – squid on a Galician pancake with mayo (mayo is one of the three m’s Isabel hates although we can only remember marzipan as the other) and a touch of spice with a crisp white wine – another alberiño.
We met a lovely couple who took the table next to us – Carla initiated the chat in Spanish as she blagged a taste of their octopus – we didn’t like it – they were from the Dominican Republic and were lovely – they are doing the reverse of our trip but in a car – we mentioned our destination was Pablo Alboran in a Coruña and they knew / know him well. They spoke some English though Carla was smashing the Spanish and the chap said he knew the Marseillaise completely (Carla said I was learning French on Dualingo) so he sang the Marseillaise and I did the english rugby version ‘a French man went to the lavatory for to have a jolly good shit … ooo ehhhhh le papier’ such fun.
The food was spectacular as was the wine – Veran see the pickie. We then wandered back for a siesta given it is so hot here today.

After siesta found a lovely bar with a garden then went looking for parks .. no idea why but Carla was keen.

A tad bored with Spanish food we shared a pizza then had ice cream …. Yum.
